On August 20, the International Congress on Renewable Energy and Energy Transition was held in Lima, Peru, as part of Expo Energética 2026. Our partner, Kenneth Maclean, participated as a speaker representing our firm. He highlighted the significant progress made by the mining industry in Chile, Brazil, and Peru in the field of energy transition. However, he emphasized that major challenges remain in eliminating diesel from transportation and open-pit mining operations.
During his presentation, he shared both Chilean and international experience in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the mining sector, noting that Chile benefits from a mature renewable energy market and a world-class mining industry that has strongly embraced the energy transition across its operations.
He also encouraged attendees to examine Scope 3 carbon reduction opportunities within the mining ecosystem, including both upstream and downstream value chains. Particular emphasis was placed on the logistics chain between the mine and the end customer, especially merchant shipping and transport.
The event was organized by the Brazil-Peru Chamber of Commerce (CAMBRAPER) in partnership with Expo Perú Industrial and brought together more than 250 attendees, including Miguel Torres, President of the Congress of Peru and Second Vice President of the country.
